The first summer school of the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI) was conducted at Justus-Liebig-University Giessen from September 20th until September 26th 2015. Out of almost 40 applications we selected 20 participants coming from Germany, Austria, Poland, South Africa and the United States.

The German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI) presents the first Late Summer School that was organized by the Bielefeld-Gießen (BiGi) Center for Microbial Bioinformatics. The BiGi center is specialized in the field of Omics data analysis for microbes and is well-known for its software platforms (e.g. GenDB). This de.NBI Late Summer School focused on the workflow from genome assembly to genome and transcriptome analysis. During the training, participants gained insight into state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools. Participants of the workshop could bring their own data sets, which were analyzed in the different sessions.
Learning targets and requirements
Participants were instructed in the genomics workflow and gained understanding of the possibilities and limitations of genome sequencing and sequence analysis. The course covered lectures and hands-on sessions by de.NBI and renowned experts in the fields and was aimed at PhD students, postdoctoral fellows or other scientists with a solid background in bioinformatics and molecular biology. Practical analysis was performed on own data sets if possible.
