We are looking for
As scientist Crop Bioinformatics, you will contribute to mine existing whole genome resequencing collections, develop novel de novo genome assemblies and understand concept of pangenomics in crops such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, chrysanthemum, kale, kohlrabi, potato, and/or onion, especially focusing on members of the Brassica family in close collaboration with researches and scientists from the crop research teams. Outcomes of the research will be used to understand the evolution /domestication of crops and understand (suppression of) recombination / genome ploidy and contribute to feeding the world in the (near) future. Hypothesis generated by the computational exploration will be validated by producing experimental populations. You will work in a team of five bioinformatics professionals, which is part of Plant Breeding’s Crop Bioinformatics and Big Data analytics group.

We ask
We are looking for an ambitious and creative scientist with minimally a MSc degree with several years of working experience in crop bioinformatics or a PhD. You are an enthusiastic team-player with good communication skills in English and a “can do” attitude. You have a strong background in whole-(pan) genome analysis and third generation genomic technologies. Your personal traits include advanced programming skills (preferably in python). You are willing to pioneer in this developing research field.

We offer
We offer a temporary contract for two years at Wageningen Research, with a possibility for extension depending on funding. Gross salary per month: from € 3.173- up to € 4.166- based on full time employment and depending on expertise and experience. In addition, we offer a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-the-year bonus of 3% of your annual salary.
