de.NBI-SysBio offers standards-based management solutions for data and models in systems biology. The node is composed of two groups with expertise in data management: the SDBV-group at HITS has a long-standing experience in scientific data supply. The SEMS group located at the Department of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics at the University of Rostock is expert in model management, with a focus on reusable and reproducible computational models.


The mission of de.NBI-SysBio is to provide data management support for all kinds of systems biology projects, with a focus on provenance and reproducibility of experimental results and standardized model-based results. Thereby the services address different profiles of users: Application users get easy access to manually curated and enriched kinetic data; they can use a sharing platform to search, store and exchange their data, models and standard operating procedures (SOPs); and they receive support in encoding and publishing their results in a reproducible manner. Developers are guided to deploy their own data management instance for their projects, and are enabled to extend the current open source software SEEK. They get assistance in implementing systems biology standards in their own simulation and analysis tools. Expert data analysts benefit from web services for automated data search, upload and integration into, e.g., modeling and simulation tools; and they gain better access to reproducible modeling results.


Developments in this unit focus on establishing and maintaining a sustainable, reliable and scalable infrastructure for systems biology data management. This infrastructure will have a lasting impact on the quality, interoperability and reuse of standardized data, models and SOPs. Another goal is to facilitate the performance of meta studies by improving the documentation and reproducibility of experiments and models.
