About

The Heidelberg Center for Human Bioinformatics (HD-HuB) bundles bioinformatics expertise from research groups at three established research institutions in Heidelberg: the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ, research groups Eils/Schlesner, Boutros), European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL, research groups Bork, Huber, Korbel) and Heidelberg University (research groups Eils/Rohr, Erfle/Reymann).

Services

Within the de.NBI network, HD-HuB focuses on three main application areas: 1) providing resources for efficiently collecting, organizing and analyzing highly complex sequencing data for successful research in human genetics and genomics and establishing novel bioinformatics tools and pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing data of various kinds, such as exome and whole-genome sequences and RNAseq data; 2) improving and developing new bioinformatics tools for various applications in the area of metagenomics, such as microbiome profiling, genome and metagenome annotation, associating microbiome composition with host phenotypes and microbial community profiling; 3) providing pipelines in the application area systematic phenotyping of human cells for automated analysis and visualization of large-scale high-content phenotype screening data of human cells based on central web-based workflow units for high-content screening and image processing and a database to integrate and visualize multi-phenotype data. In all three areas, HD-HuB will provide resources and support and will actively engage in training activities.

Developments

Activities within HD-HuB aim at the provision of workflows and pipelines for the analysis of sequencing data in the context of human genomics and metagenomics and at the provision of automated tools and databases for the analysis of bioimage data for cellular phenotyping. In all three application areas, HD-HuB will provide courses and workshops for hands-on training of basic and expert users on the offered tools and services.
