The following position is available at the Faculty of Biosciences of Heidelberg University:

JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP (W1) ON BIOINFORMATICS INFRASTRUCTURE

Heidelberg University is an internationally highly recognized institution for fundamental research and teaching, including one of Germany´s largest campuses for the life sciences. The recently founded Institute for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (IBIS) is a scientific center shared by the Universities of Heidelberg, Freiburg, Konstanz and Tübingen in Baden-Württemberg and will collaborate with EMBL, DKFZ and HITS. IBIS is now establishing a new professorship which will also head the central activities of the center.

The successful candidate will establish a cutting-edge research program addressing questions of modern bioinformatics with a special focus on establishing and maintaining tools and applications which are widely used in life sciences and have enabling power in the field, such as:

- Software in applied bioinformatics (e.g. addressing research questions in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, RNA bioinformatics or modeling of biological processes/structures)
- Cloud computing or computing on GPU- /mixed GPU/CPU-clusters in bioinformatics
- Developing sustainable bioinformatics structures that enable researchers to use advanced methods
- Tools and methods for intelligent data management including data FAIRness

Participation in collaborative research projects as well as in teaching at Bachelor and Master student level are expected. The initial position includes 100% salary support and a research support budget commensurate with that for an associate professorship.

We offer an excellent international research environment, which is complemented by additional academic institutes and research centers. There are numerous scientific computing core facilities in house and on campus. Moreover, access to infrastructures at the partner institutions is also possible.

According to § 51 of the Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg, a completed degree, an excellent promotion as well as pedagogical suitability, which is generally determined by experience in teaching, are preconditions for an appointment. The professorship is to be understood a qualification position. According to § 51 of the Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg, the appointment is made temporarily for up to six years.
