About

CIBI brings together expertise in genome informatics, computational mass spectrometry (proteomics, metabolomics), biological image analysis, and workflow systems from several leading German research institutions: Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen (EKUT), Universität Konstanz (UKON), the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry Halle (IPB), and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics Dresden (CBG). Its mission is to provide application users and expert data analysts with cutting-edge tools for the analysis of omics and imaging data as well as with a workflow engine to integrate these tools into coherent solutions for reproducible analysis of complex biomedical data.

Services

CIBI maintains the bioinformatics libraries and tools collections SeqAn (FUB) and OpenMS (EKUT), the workflow environment KNIME (UKON), metabolite identification tools (IPB), the and the image analysis suite Fiji (CBG). It supports application users, expert data analysts, and developers in using these tools. For developers CIBI offers high-quality software libraries to allow for efficient implementations of novel algorithmic ideas for the analysis of –omics data and for effective distribution to application users and expert data analysts. For application users, expert data analysts, and developers CIBI provides support and consulting in using and extending the solutions provided by CIBI. In addition to augmenting documentation as well as teaching materials of these resources, we provide training and education events in the area of proteomics, metabolomics, image analysis, sequence genomics as well as workflow systems. In addition, we support users in sharing and submitting to public metabolomics data repositories.

Developments

Developments focus on the sustainable, continued development and integration of the five main software platforms and other software libraries needed throughout de.NBI. CIBI pays particular attention to aspects of backwards compatibility and cross-platform availability of all maintained software to enable reproducibility of experiments and subsequent data analyses.
