NFDI4Microbiota is a consortium of 10 partners which was established as part of the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). It aims at democratizing access to microbiota data and high-end computational analyses. This will be achieved by building a seamless workflow from data collection to digital preservation, and guiding researchers through this workflow. An important part of this is to raise awareness about Open Science, the FAIR data principles and good scientific practice, as well as to equip microbiology researchers with knowledge and skills regarding these topics so that they can adequately handle their data and software. Among other activities, NFDI4Microbiota has initiated a dedicated Knowledge Base which will contain information on Research Data Management and Reproducible Data Analysis in the broad field of microbiology. The Knowledge Base is developed in an open, collaborative process on GitHub [1] and offered under a permissive license (CC-BY 4.0).
Several NFDI4Microbiota members will participate in the BioHackathon and use that time as a content spring. The BioHackathon will offer a great opportunity to engage in discussions with other participants on various topics such as best practices, bioinformatical tools, Electronic Lab Notebooks and privacy issues.
