The Leibniz-Institute DSMZ-Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH, Braunschweig offers the position of a

Postdoctoral research associate
("Functional genomics of antibiotic biosynthesis")

in the group Microbial Genome Research. This position is funded by the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). Appointment will be initially for 2 years and subject to extension based on a positive interim evaluation. The salary level will be TV-L 13. The position is offered full time but not appropriate for part time work. Starting date will be as soon as possible.

We integrate genome and transcriptome sequence analyses with metabolomics to investigate natural product syntheses in bacteria. Our aims are the discovery of novel antimicrobial compounds and the specific induction and control of their production. Tasks of the postdoctoral researcher will include genome-wide analyses of genetic regulatory circuits and large-scale comparative genomics.

The Leibniz Institute DSMZ is equipped with safety level 2 laboratories with facilities for anaerobe experiments and for molecular biology work. State-of-the-art high-throughput sequencers (Pacific Biosciences, Illumina) are available in the institute, and a dedicated, powerful bioinformatics server infrastructure has been established for data analysis.

We seek an enthusiastic scientist with interests in bioinformatics, microbiology, and molecular biology. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in bioinformatics/data science, microbiology, or genetics, and a good command of English, both spoken and written. Familiarity with genome or transcriptome data, experience with Linux shell-based bioinformatic tools, and basic programming skills (e.g. Python, R) are essential. Experience with metabolome analyses will be a plus.

The DSMZ offers a lively, international research environment with well-equipped laboratories and computational facilities. The institutes of the Leibniz Association strive to increase the proportion of female scientists and encourage female candidates specifically to apply. Disabled applicants with identical technical and personal qualification will be preferentially selected. The DSMZ is an equal opportunity employer. DSMZ supports balanced work-life career development and holds the certificate of the audit berufundfamilie.
