SPIRE (Searchable Planetary-scale mIcrobiome REsource) is an integrated metagenomics resource for exploring microbial diversity across global habitats. It brings together consistently processed metagenomic data from approximately 100,000 samples across 739 studies, including 35 billion predicted protein sequences and 1.16 million metagenome-assembled genomes.

Key features:
- Planetary-scale resource: consistently processed metagenomic data covering diverse global habitats, studies, and microbial communities
- Predicted proteins and MAGs: 35 billion protein sequences and 1.16 million MAGs clustered into more than 100,000 species-level clusters
- Comparative analysis: explore microbial diversity across habitats, geography, taxonomy, and phylogeny
- Part of the Bork Microbiome Toolbox
- Free for academic life scientists
