Educator:
Dennis Psaroudakis (GCBN, Data Steward for SNP2Prot)

Date:
21st January 2026, 9:00am – 12:00am/noon.

Location:

Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research, BIZ Seminar room

Contents:
The workshop briefly introduces general Research Data Management (RDM) principles and practices, followed by hands-on work with Annotated Research Contexts (ARCs), which are FAIR Digital Objects based on RO-Crate standards that bundle raw data, metadata, workflows, and code for full reproducibility of studies from assays to analyses. Participants use the ARCitect GUI software to create and manage ARCs, processing an example dataset step-by-step, while learning to leverage the PLANTdataHUB—a GitLab-based platform—for collaborative backup, versioning, and sharing of ARCs.

Learning goals:
Participants gain foundational RDM knowledge and practical skills to build ARCs using the ARCitect, enabling structured annotation and management of their plant research data. By the end, attendees can apply the ARC framework to their own datasets, using the PLANTdataHUB for collaboration and FAIR-compliant storage to support reproducibility and reuse.

Prerequisites:
The workshop targets plant scientists, including PhD students, postdocs, and researchers new to structured RDM or seeking to adopt ARCs and the DataPLANT infrastructure for data handling and publishing. Attendees need a git.nfdi4plants.org account (create one at https://git.nfdi4plants.org/ if you do not have one already and confirm login details beforehand); no prior software installation is required; you can bring your own laptop but otherwise laptops will be provided.
