This interactive workshop is designed to optimise your data management workflows, helping you get your research data into better shape, save valuable time, and ensure long-term reproducibility.
We will walk you through the FAIR data ecosystem, introduce powerful search tools, and dive into hands-on sessions with a few of Germany's repositories. The event follows a structured, three-part format:
- Part 1: Welcome & Joint Kick-off
- Welcome & Introduction: A short overview of the FAIRagro, de.NBI, and ELIXIR-DE networks and how they support your research.
- The SearchHub Input: A crisp, 10-minute introduction to the SearchHub and how to use it effectively to discover research data.
- Part 2: Repository Lightning Showcases
Get a 10-minute snapshot from each of our four participating repositories to understand their unique focus and data types:- 🌍 BONARES (Soil and agricultural data)
- 🗺️ PANGAEA (Earth and environmental science data)
- 🌱 e!DAL-PGP (Plant genetic and phenotyping data)
- Part 3: Deep-Dive Breakout Sessions (Main Part – until 13:00)
After the overviews, you will join a dedicated breakout session. Each repository group hosts their own independent interactive space, allowing you to choose where to focus. Depending on the room you choose, this main session will feature:- Live software and platform demonstrations
- Real-world scientific use cases
- Interactive Q&A and community discussions
- Next steps on how to utilise their local helpdesks and specialised workshops
Learning goals:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify which core repository (BONARES, PANGAEA, or e!DAL-PGP) matches their specific type of research data
- Understand the curation, metadata standards, and submission pipelines required by each repository to get data into a high-quality, FAIR-compliant state.
- Use the SearchHub alongside repository-specific search functionalities to efficiently find and reuse high-quality datasets within their scientific domain.
- Analyse platform demonstrations and active use cases within the breakout sessions to determine how to structure their own data for publication.
- Connect directly with the data stewards, help desks, and specialised community workshops for the respective repositories to resolve individual data management bottlenecks.
Prerequisites:
This workshop is primarily tailored for early-career researchers, PhD students, and young scientists who are working with agricultural, environmental, life science, or plant data. There is no advanced prior knowledge of research data management or repository infrastructure required to join, making this course highly suitable for beginners who want a guided introduction to the German data landscape. On the technical side, because this is a fully virtual event, you will only need a stable internet connection, a microphone, and a camera to participate in the repository breakout discussions and Q&A sessions actively.
