A Linux introduction course is valuable in many scientific fields due to its relevance in modern scientific research and data analysis. Linux is an open-source operating system that offers powerful tools and flexibility, which can greatly enhance various aspects of microbiology research and equips microbiologists with the technical foundation needed to harness the capabilities of this operating system for enhanced data analysis, customization, collaboration and security in their research endeavors.
The goal of this one-day workshop is to provide participants with a brief introduction to the Linux command line interface (shell) and the basic skills needed to process Next Generation Sequence (NGS) data from microbial communities as well as to perform analyses. The format will comprise a mixture of lectures and hands-on tutorials where students will process example data sets in in the de.NBI cloud environment.
