The Software Carpentry workshop is hands-on two-days event that covers the core skills needed to be productive in a small research team. The workshop will provide short tutorials and practical exercises of Unix shell and Python programing language, paired with live coding for demonstration. The participants will be introduced to git and GitHub to practice using version control for storage and sharing of their codes.
Learning goals:
The aim of Software Carpentry is to teach researchers the fundamental skills that will help them be more productive while producing work of higher quality. Students learn how to automate tasks using the Unix shell, how to track and share work using version control, and how to write software in Python that is readable, reusable, and reliable.
Prerequisites:
This course is designed for the absolute beginners hence there is no technical pre-requisite. We aim to pass on the bioinformatics skills to the early stage life science researchers who need to apply bioinformatics approaches to their projects.
