The German Crop BioGreenformatics Network (GCBN) as one service unit within the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI) presents a comprehensive HandsOn training that will be organized by the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) Gatersleben. The GCBN is specialized in the diversified field of Omics data analysis for crop plants.

Educators:
GCBN-IPK: Andrea Bräutigam, Uwe Scholz, Martin Mascher, Matthias Lange, Yusheng Zhao

Date:
25-SEP-2017 – 27-SEP-2017

Location:
IPK Gatersleben, Bioinformatikzentrum, Room No 1.32, Corrensstraße 3, 06466 Seeland

Contents:
The 4th German Crop BioGreenformatics Network (GCBN) user training will provide a hands-on introduction to useful bioinformatics tools for biologists with little or no previous knowledge. The training will enable biologists to process their own small and large datasets using R and Linux based methods and is entirely computer-based with interspersed lectures Learning goals: Introduction into Linux and R (Ubuntu, RStudio) Sequence analysis using Blast and simple phylogenies (Ubuntu, Blast+, seaview) Data processing with Linux tools (awk, sed) Introduction to databases (concepts, SQL, programming) Statistics and figures (R)

Prerequisites:
We require students to self-study four online courses before the start: http://tryr.codeschool.com; http://linuxsurvival.com/; https://regexone.com/https://www.w3schools.com/sql/ In total, 25 participants (PhD students & postdoctoral fellows) will be selected based on a short application. Please send your CV and a short motivation description of no more than 2000 characters in one (!) pdf file via email.
