The International Spring School „Computational Biology Starter“ is a satellite event of the Gatersleben Research Conference on Applied Bioinformatics for Crops and will be held from 20-22 March, 2019 at IPK Gatersleben. The Spring School offers a mixture of lectures and hands-on introduction to useful computational biology and bioinformatics tools and workflows.

The Spring School is intended for early career scientists like graduate students or postdocs, as well as others interested in the topics of our Spring School. We envision to broaden the participants’ horizon and encourage them to tackle basic computational biology and bioinformatics problems on their own. Information provided in the Spring School will raise the awareness for the importance of fundamental statistical measures when designing experiments and the inclusion of sophisticated state-of-the-art equipment or software.

- Statistics and figures (RStudio)
- Applied Phenomics (Image-based data analysis & visualisation)
- Introduction to Galaxy and design of analysis workflows (Galaxy)
- Metabolic Modelling (Flux balance analysis)
Prerequisites:
We require students to self-study four online courses before the start:

In total, 25 participants (PhD students & postdoctoral fellows) will be selected based on a short application (max. 2000 words).
