About

The "RNA Bioinformatics Center" (RBC) comprises all major RNA bioinformatics groups in Germany: University of Freiburg, University of Leipzig and Max Delbrück Center - Berlin. The center deals with RNA-related data from transcriptome analysis to RNA structure analysis, prediction of ncRNA targets, definition and classification of RNA transcripts, and the analysis of RNA-protein interactions.

Partners

Partners of the RBC include the de.NBI-Epigenetics (de.NBI-epi) project and the “Structured Analysis and Integration of RNA-Seq experiments” (de.STAIR) project. de.NPI-epi is driven by Altuna Akalin and Björn Grüning, from Berlin and Freiburg, respectively. Both have a strong focus on epigenetics research and maintain a variety of tools like deeptools, methylKit, genomation, and HiCExplorer. de.STAIR comprises three groups located at the Leibniz Institute for Aging in Jena, the University of Freiburg, and the University of Rostock. As project partners, de.STAIR focus on developing flexible workflows for different RNA-Seq protocols as well as providing training courses in case of RNA-Seq and bisulfite sequencing analysis.

Services

The mission of the RNA Bioinformatics Center is to support RNA-related research within de.NBI. To this end, the center provides training and tools for researchers interested in RNA. We provide training in various formats, such as group training, or one-on-one consultations and mentorships. Additionally, the RBC maintains and develops an integrated, easily accessible RNA analysis workbench, which can be used on high-performance computing (HPC) environments, as well as downloaded and deployed on local setups. The RBC collaborates with other bioinformatics centers and established open scientific communities such as Galaxy, to provide high infrastructure availability, usability, and reproducibility of in-silico analyses. The center also offers its infrastructure as a learning and teaching environment, to foster awareness for the importance of RNA-centric data analyses. The RBC additionally offers Training Infrastructure as a Service (TIaaS) as part of the European Galaxy Server; this service provides support to training events with computational power, teachers, and training material as needed. Developments

The center actively improves its portfolio of tools and services, and collects them in the RNA analysis workbench. Here, developed tools and workflows are shared with the public, to promote open science as well as self-training. All tools are available on the European Galaxy server (https://usegalaxy.eu), that is maintained by the RBC.
